You Make Me Smile
texasradiofish
Created a funky R&B jam based on Copperhead’s 93.6 bpm CMWYS Drums leaving room for lead instruments or vocals. Looked for pells in the 90-95 bpm range that had not been remixed. Found Dave Merrick’s “You Make Me Smile” which almost fit. Slowed down the music to 90 bpm, made changes to Dave’s phrasing and arrangement, and changed the vocal pitch in one place in the chorus to match the chord progression.
Creating the music first then seeking out and adapting completed vocals is backwards from traditional songwriting, but we do it often.
Found harmonica and ElRon guitar samples in our sample library.
Back up singers: Jenny Mayhem, Patrcia Edwards
