Walking Out
BPM 60
Synth : Usynth FM Crystal Pad
Synth : Tune fish Saaaaw
FX : JS RingModulator, ReEQ, AMT Air Reverb, Valhalla Supermassive, TDR Compressor, ReComp

I have three analog synths, so I was delighted to find some midi stems in MWIC’s catalog. I came up with three tracks, using various combinations of midi stems and sound files, and settled on this one. We were encouraged to “melt boundaries, stretch the limits of what can be created from what once was.” I did my best.

My mix uses the midi from Alberti fractal, going through two synths (actually software synths this time), with the midi in the middle section being transposed on a gradient. Drums from Other Judge, run thru a ring modulator.
One of the other mixes I had worked on used the stems from abuilding , and this provided a starting point for the lyric.

you always said you needed
shelter
anywhere
a basket
however threadbare
a cave
whatever the cost
whatever monster held you there in cruel hands

today so many years later
you button up your shirt
tie your tie
polish your shoes with a trembling hand

and walk out

blinded by sudden light
motionless

impatient travellers curse you, jostle and shove you
you almost lose your footing
as you come to yourself
