Alcohol Free Day


The kidneys and the gut’s first-rate
The BP’s sound and all the liver’s fine
and all the markers in the blood
Indicate my health is great
The nurse enquires re the grog
What would I consume an average day?
Including spirits and occasional wine?
I make an ad hoc log…

I tote up all the tipples,
Asahi, Boags and Coopers red,
The Sparklings, Reds and Whites
My admission causes ripples
My drinking needs a tweak
We settle on a Monday (and that includes the nights)
No alcohol from breakfast time till bed.
