Daisy Bell (They'll Soon Decide, If We Can Ride)
Kara Square
We have Jeris and SackJo22 to thank and blame for this one. :) Jeris sent me an email with a challenge to flip the lyrics of this classic song. And SackJo22 had originally challenged Jeris to help remake the song. In that he already recorded the incredible backing track and SackJo22 already shared amazing harmonies (and her inspired versions- go listen!), how could I resist? And so, without further ado, I give you the newest version of “Daisy Bell”- which has now become a song of social justice. I do hope you enjoy…
*Shout out to my love Katie for being my muse for this AND for helping me with some of the lyrics.
*Original Lyrics by Harry Dacre (1892).
*I tried to sing it with the same fervor as Edward M. Favor.
*SCOTUS = Supreme Court of the United States
*Vocals with and w/o effects are included.
WORDS
There is a flower within my heart
Daisy, Daisy
Planted one day by a glancing dart
Planted by Daisy Bell
Whether she loves me or loves me not
Not very hard to tell
We’ve been together for 15 years
Oh beautiful Daisy Bell
Daisy, Daisy, gave me her answer, yes
They’re half-crazy over the love of us
Our state banned our right to marriage
Hope SCOTUS has some courage
They’ll soon decide, if we can ride
On a bicycle built for two
We will go tandem as wife and wife
Daisy, Daisy
Peddling our way down the road of life
I and my Daisy Bell
We fight for equality when we must
Protest, debate, and vote
We march on Washington hand in hand
Oh virtuous Daisy Bell
CHORUS
I will stand by you no matter what
Daisy, Daisy,
They can’t legislate away our love
Strong and smart Daisy Bell
They claim our marriage would be immoral
Forcing their hate on us
But they forget the strength of true love
Oh passionate Daisy Bell
CHORUS
