Dead Heat
Kara Square
Here are the vocal stems.
I had this idea to write a song composed completely of idioms… there’s at least one exception, but it just sounded cooler that way. So, this song isn’t about anyone (though it sounds like I’m quite mad at someone- nopers)… it’s about ol’ idiom and our odd use of language.
*Thank you to Covert! The music is all his. I did a little chopping and pasting and pieced together a bridge with his samples, but the music all started with him. Thanks for the inspiration!
WORDS:
Every cloud has a silver lining
I’ll cross my fingers that you’ll find your feet.
Drastic times call for drastic measures
Now I’ve got an axe to grind
About that chip on your shoulder
And all of your slips of the tongue
You know you’re mad as a hatter
With your nose all out of joint
Always adding fuel to the fire
It’s down to the wire
Listen up.
Every cloud has a silver lining
I’ll cross my fingers that you’ll find your feet
With all those skeletons in your closet
The jury’s out and it’s a dead heat.
It’s been dog eat dog
Cuz’ you’re set in your ways
With your foot in your mouth
Never been on the same page
Cuz’ you’ve been crying wolf
You’ve been throwing stones
You’ve been biting the hand
You’re a wolf in sheep’s clothes
Every cloud has a silver lining
I’ll cross my fingers that you’ll find your feet
With all those skeletons in your closet
The jury’s out and it’s a dead heat.
A shot in the dark
Just a slap on your wrist
A taste of your own medicine
I ain’t beating around the bush
I’ve been around the block
Now I’m calling it off
So put your best foot forward
And not in your mouth.
Every cloud has a silver lining
I’ll cross my fingers that you’ll find your feet
With all those skeletons in your closet
The jury’s out and it’s a dead heat.
You’re the worst of both worlds
This is the last straw
You’re in over your head
You got off on the wrong foot
And now you’re on your last leg
You’ve rocked the boat
Now it’s sink or swim
Do an about face
Or you’ll be between a rock and a hard, hard place.
