The Sun Smiles on LightSail 2

This song takes its title from the Planetary Society spacecraft “Lightsail 2”. This crowd-funded explorer proved the theory (and science fiction standby) that solar sails provide a means of propulsion in space. The project provides a proof-of-concept. The LightSail 2 project uses precepts of sharing, just as we mixters do—the project advises that the software is Linux-based and authored under the guidance of Cal Poly San Luis Obsipo. http://www.planetary.org/ex...
This is an exciting time for this project, because this Summer the solar sail successfully deployed.
In my piece, outer space sports a bit of a beat. The samples I worked with gave me a chance to explore space. Last year, 7OOP3d remixed me, with a rich, vibrant mix. They kindly posted the stems for all the cool things they added to my odd set of samples. I took sections of those samples to create my piece.
I used the offbeat sequencer Lauki available free through http://ixi-audio.net/. As I am a Linux user, I ran it via the WINE program that helps Linux systems run Windows programs. Everything in the song is comprised of sequencing of the 7003PD-created samples in Lauki, which permits the creation of beats and melodies in a somewhat non-traditional way.
As life goes on, I find myself attracted to more offbeat ways of making music with software. My thanks to creator Thor Magnusson and the other makers at IXI software, who have helped me tremendously with my musical interests, simply by sharing free software which encourages one to make music outside the box.
I am grateful to 7OOP3D, who create wonderful things and who provide mixters with useful stem uploads with their remixes. This piece tells the tale of the way that one can travel by the light of the Sun. The sun has an ever-changing pulse, at least in my mind.
