TONIGHT, WINTER


Tonight, winter descends,
As the moon
Rises,
A perfect pearl,
Shaping itself
Layer upon layer around the dark sky.

The snow
Is only the opposite of
Darkness,

I am this darkness.

Once I was a young
Girl burning
In dreams,
Like ancient sea birds
Flaming
In the wind.

Now, all I want is to burn
Into silence,
My body, cool and forgotten,
Melting
Into silver snow.
