From Drifting Toward Light
~Life and Art~
In another life you circumnavigated Australia
adventure driving your Kombi van as near to the edge as you could get
travelling on coastal roads until necessity gave you an inland track to follow.
Red dust and sunsets, spinifex and stone painted your mind the colours of the land.
Later, you made your way to the centre and were there at Uluru
only weeks before the Chamberlain tragedy, scaling the country’s heart in the coolness
of early morning. Your lens captured the beauty of bush and rock and ocean.
Wherever you wandered, the marvelous canvas reflected its miracles of colour and light.
A favourite slide, from the Gulf of Carpentaria, speaks of patient moments
spent waiting for a lone pelican to align with the blood red sinking sun.
Memories that came home with you; but were you ever the same when you returned?
Do you wander now from these containing walls to that ochre coloured space inside your head?
