En Shenandoah
Down With Ben
panu said it best when he remarked that airtone’s disEnchantment backing track “ flows like a river.” Indeed. And deserving of a river sea shanty, thought I.
As soon as I started listening to it, Shenandoah came to mind. I’ve always had a soft spot for that classic American folk song, so I was delighted that it seemed to fit so well with airtone’s track.
But I suppose that’s the great thing about the pliable Pachelbel progression - easily repurposed and plays with practically everything. 😁
There are no set lyrics to Shenandoah. These are what I decided to go with:
Oh, Shenandoah, I long to see you,
And hear your rolling river.
Oh Shenandoah, I long to see you,
Away, we’re bound away,
I long to see you smiling valley
And hear your rolling river.
I long to see you smiling valley,
Away, we’re bound away,
‘cross the wide Missouri.
‘cross the wide Missouri.
‘cross the wide Missouri.
Away, we’re bound away.
Oh Shenandoah, I love your daughter,
‘Tis but a rolling river.
For her I’d cross the roaming waters,
Away, we’re bound away,
‘Tis seven years since last I’ve seen you
Along the rolling river.
‘Tis seven years since last I’ve seen you,
Away, we’re bound away,
‘cross the wide Missouri.
‘cross the wide Missouri.
‘cross the wide Missouri.
Away, we’re bound away.
Oh Shenandoah, I long to see you,
And hear your rolling river.
Oh Shenandoah, I long to see you,
Away, we’re bound away,
‘cross the wide Missouri.
‘cross the wide Missouri.
‘cross the wide Missouri.
Away, we’re bound away,
‘cross the wide Missouri.
‘cross the wide Missouri.
‘cross the wide Missouri.
Away, we’re bound away.
