Points of Departure (1/4: Bass)
Bruce H. McCosar
Bass track to “Points of Departure”, the eighth song (and title track) from my recent Jamendo album.
There are only four tracks in this release series:
1. Bass
2. Guitar
3. Piano
4. Percussion (made with Renoise)
This song is meant to serve as a complement to “The Wind of Distant Planets.” Where the seventh song had a very busy sonic space, this one is comparatively open.
On the chorus sections, the bass changes from a riff to a cascading series of chords that push each bar by a quarter notes (salsa bass style). The changes in this section are all derivatives of the B diminished scale — B13b9, D13b9, and F13b9, essentially a cycle of 7b9 substitutions.
