Just You And Me
Tenny
I have been overflowing with excitement to post this song it has literally gone through over 20 revisions, too many edits to count, and a couple thousand listens. What a fantastic way to pop my secret mixter cherry!! My secret mixter assignment was wellman, now I have to admit my only experience seeing wellman around ccmixter was as a producer so I had no clue what to expect. I immediately headed out to check his uploads and found some wonderful sample packs and a message on the sample pack named De Colores that challenged: “I dare my secret mixter to use this pack!!!” Well this is a challenge I just cannot ignore, but I had no clue where to go with it. I listen to each stem over and over and found myself drawn to a certain tribal rhythm of a 1:35 long Percussion 1 pattern. It called out to me as if it were a long lost beat from my rave days of old. I slowly started to built the beat up with a pure 808 kick and a power house clap and found myself wildly dancing about. But there was an emptiness which needed to be filled and I was reminded of a recent piano sample I had heard from Colab and figured it would make the perfect house piano after adding a few effects. So here I sat with this tribal house tune but there was still a void, the strange empty void that can only be helped with a good house vocal so search CCMixter I did and I found this lovely verse from MsKidd that moved me to my core.
From here is was just chopping and stretching and looping and over applying effects and scaling them back and mixing and a little more mixing and all of a sudden I hit a point. A point where it was just right (to me at least). I love the final journey this song has taken for me. Had it not been for the secret mixter forcing me to wait until now to post it I am certain I would have already posted a song that doesn’t feel as good to me as this one does now. I like how the song builds, starting with the raw foundation of my secret mixter sample from wellman, to this complete track with emotion and feeling and then circles back.
Thank you CCMixter for allowing me to be a part of this experience.
