These Dark Trees
Robert Warrington
Response to the instrumental co-created by Javolenus and Smiling Cynic.
The sun is gas, the sunset dust
The sun is not the only one or even the first
I feel unease at these dark trees
I try to do what’s right, I try to fight the sea
I may not eat meat but meat eats me
I feel unease at these dark trees
My eyes failed as my heart drowned
You walked away on water without a sound
I feel unease at these dark trees
All we have are our finite lives
A handful of years and a back full of knives
I feel unease at these dark trees
The sun is gas, the sunset dust
The sun is not the only one or even the first
I feel unease at these dark trees
I try to do what’s right, I try to fight the sea
I may not eat meat but meat eats me
I feel unease at these dark trees
My eyes failed as my heart drowned
You walked away on water without a sound
I feel unease at these dark trees
All we have are our finite lives
A handful of years and a back full of knives
I feel unease at these dark trees
