Jacqueline And Daniel
Radioontheshelf
One of the worlds greatest cellists, Jacqueline Du Pré, met the pianist and conductor Daniel Barenboim in London on Christmas Eve 1966. Later she flew to Jerusalem with Barenboim. There, she converted to Judaism and they married at the Western Wall on 15 June 1967. Barenboim and du Pré were highly regarded as a “golden couple” in the music industry during the late 1960s and early 1970s, with their extensive performing and recording collaborations being ranked as some of the finest of their time. Life dealt a terrible blow to DuPre as she developed Multiple Sclerosis which caused her to loose the feelings in her fingers and she died at the young age of 42.
I have taken Skye Jordans midi files and with slight adjustments used them to create the piano track. The viola is “played” using various samples and phrases from my personal collection.
The mix is dedicated to the Ukranian cellist Denys Karachevtsev.
