Candlelit dinner for two but only one turned up


When we got married we lived in towns where people knew us and shared our hopes
We built our castles with words of gold and sailed our young dreams wherever love would float
You had some fine words to share with me of perfect kindness and purest thought
But summer soon was fading and autumn beckoned us to share its walk

And so we travelled that old dirt road that led us places we didn’t want to go
You kept your beauty I lost my dream I feared the winter the hurtful cold
But you were so practical kept candles lit despite the winds
And said don’t fear love there will always be another spring
