LITTLE MEN/GENTLEMAN

Song Description:
This track is a fun little vocal improv exercise I did. I found a backing track on YouTube and hit record on my phone, making up lyrics in real-time while I listened for the first time. It was a total freestyle moment!
Afterward, I listened to my rough recording just once to jot down all the lyrics. Then, I jumped into my DAW and recorded two separate vocal tracks based on that initial vibe. I set a little challenge for myself: I could only listen to my first recording once, and I wouldn’t listen to my new takes after recording them. I wanted to see how well I could remember that original melody!
With those two tracks ready, I spent about 30 minutes editing and piecing everything together to make it sound more polished. I gave myself just an hour to finish the whole thing, and it was a great way to push my creative limits!
The theme for the song came from a phone call I had with a friend who was sharing her dating horror stories. She was venting about how hard it is to find a decent guy, and it inspired me to write about that struggle of finding a true gentleman.
lyrics:
Now that I know what it is like to be bad
I don’t know if I used up all the time I had
These pretty boys, these little men
Can’t search the world enough to find a gentleman
Can’t find my gentleman
How am I supposed to find a gentleman inside
Outside they may look kind but underneath
It is really sad
I don’t wanna have to hide, the real me inside
Because these little men can’t take what’s coming to them with stride
I don’t wanna have to lie
All these feelings I feel inside
When these little men don’t know what’s coming to them
These little men
Don’t know what I can do
These little men
I am more than able (aha)
This aint Cain and Abel
This aint a fight between us
These little men
Don’t know what I can do
I can be without you
You know
Treat every day like a blessing you know
It hard out here to find a gentleman
